Occupational Asthma - Peak Flow - FEV1 Monitoring |
| It is recommended that changes in lung function (ie, FEV1 & Peak Flow) during or shortly after a work shift can be used to confirm or refute claims of occupational asthma. Obtaining repeated measurements of FEV1 & Peak Flow several times a day for several days is frequently needed. Unfortunately, most peak flow meters have significant limitations making their use of limited value. Concerns regarding test quality, errors in recording of data, and lack of documented calibration records are of significant concern. Recent studies have also demonstrated that peak flow data collected by individuals has been falsified. In addition, many peak flow meters given to patients have not been calibrated before and after use, thus there is very little confidence the measured values are correct. Dr. McKay can provide a hand held FEV1 - Peak Flow meter that resolves many of the problems previously identified during investigations of occupational asthma. When measurement of lung function is needed a calibrated meter can be sent via overnight mail to the client. Easy to follow instructions are provided along with verbal instructions over the phone. |
